Buying Tips: Most Accurate CO2 Monitors

    Accuracy specs are usually written as a fixed value plus a percentage of reading, such as "±50 ppm ±3%". At 2,000 ppm that second term dominates, so a monitor rated ±50 ppm at 1,000 ppm may be ±110 ppm at 2,000.

    Sensor type outranks the quoted number. A ±50 ppm NDIR sensor is more trustworthy than a ±30 ppm claim on an eCO2 device, because the eCO2 figure is inferred rather than measured.

    All NDIR sensors drift over time. Automatic baseline calibration corrects this by assuming the room reaches outdoor levels periodically — which fails in spaces occupied around the clock, where manual calibration is required.

    Verify any monitor against fresh outdoor air, which sits near 420 ppm globally. A unit reading 300 or 600 ppm outdoors is telling you its calibration has drifted, regardless of its published spec.
